want vs. need

I hate this concept of wanting vs. needing...
This has been on my mind since last night. My lap top died it wasnt even 2 years old. I miss it so much, I miss the ease and convenience of sitting in my chair tatting while listening to my massive amount of various music, I miss being able to look up a tatting pattern or checking on a design from my chair when I need to.
I got this computer and its great but its not a lap top... Dave got a bonus from work and he said if there was any left over money he would get me my lap top I wanted I want a small acer since I have this one that works wonderfully for everything else. Last night he gave me the money to go and get it today. I feel bad he is always getting me things that I want and I am not the one "out" earning the money. I do have my own home business with tatting thread and clay but that is never a sure thing...
Yes I WANT a new lap top but I do not NEED it!! I put the money back in the lock box with a smile and frown. I am proud of myself for doing this but at the same time a bit sad I will not be getting what I WANT but its my decision...

Is the laptop something you could realistically save up for using money you earn from your home business? Then again, should he want to get you something for Xmas like say a laptop...

Heather, you under-value yourself so much. Dave may be earning the money, but you are doing the housework, childcare, cooking, etc. All these things also have economic value, even if you don't get "paid" for them. Plus, you're a kind, caring, sweet, and generous person, so of course your husband wants to give you gifts. There's no reason for you to feel bad about it.
